Senior Centers

Several towns in Southeastern Connecticut have senior centers which offer a number of services to older residents. These range from entertainment to health programs to special outings. All senior centers offer fitness programs, which are detailed under the Senior Exercise Programs tab.

East Lyme Senior Center

The East Lyme Senior Center runs day trips to nearby attractions as well as longer trips to destinations abroad. Regular programs at the center include health and nutrition services, games, music classes, and education and enrichment classes. 37 Society Road, Niantic. 860-739-5859,

Griswold Senior Center

Charging a mere $3 a year for membership, the Griswold Senior Center is open to ages 55 and up as well as anyone who is disabled. The center coordinates a number of senior assistance programs, including tax preparation, transportation, caregiver support, and energy assistance. The center also offers activities such as knitting, art classes, Swedish weaving, and a book club. 22 Soule Street, Jewett City. 860-376-2604,

Groton Senior Center

Open to those ages 55 and older, the Groton Senior Center provides regular services such as a hairdresser, massage therapy, wellness clinic, and a free hot lunch at the center’s Coastal Café. Programs include art classes, technology and financial courses, and more. The Groton Senior Center also coordinates a number of foreign trips as well as day trips to nearby destinations. 102 Newtown Road, Groton. 860-441-6785.

Ledyard Senior Center

The Ledyard Senior Center offers regular meals at its Community Café as well as events such as picnics, intergenerational activities, and a senior expo. Other activities hosted at the center include games, a book group, photo ID sessions, and movies. Lisbon Senior Center

The Lisbon Senior Center says it aims to provide a club-like atmosphere for seniors to socialize. Its activities include art classes, a book club, lectures, and knitting. The center also provides transportation services and assistance with applications, insurance, and other documentation. 11 Newent Road, Lisbon. 860-376-2329,

Lymes’ Senior Center

In addition to transportation services and senior assistance, the Lymes’ Senior Center organizes trips and provides programs such as games, health clinics, photography, and weekly classes on varying subjects. A visiting nurse is available at the center each weekday. 26 Town Woods Road, Old Lyme. 860-434-1605,

Montville Senior Center

The Montville Senior Center says its primary purpose is to provide assistance, referrals, and information to the senior population. These include help with energy assistance, renters’ rebates, Medicare, state assistance, and more. The center also offers shopping trips and programs in areas such as creative writing, computers, and Zentangle. 12 Maple Ave., Uncasville. 860-848-0422,

New London Senior Center

The New London Senior Center says it works to promote the independence, dignity, and self-respect of older adults. It provides a number of regular trips for shopping and errands as well as a health education series and classes in art, technology, and more. 120 Broad Street, New London. 860-447-5232,

Preston Senior Center

The Preston Senior Center is open to people ages 60 and older on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. A midday meal is served on Mondays. Regular services include bingo, income tax assistance, blood pressure screenings, a lending library, and a craft class. 42 Long Society Road, Preston. 860-887-5581,

Rose City Senior Center

Open to people ages 55 and older, the Rose City Senior Center works to provide a number of programs to promote senior independence and community involvement.
